Cellphone Policy

YONDR

Thomas Jefferson High School has implemented the  YONDR Pouch Policy. In order to optimize student learning, students are to place their phones in their YONDR Pouch during the school day. At dismissal, students may access their phones at the end of the day. Magnets to unlock the pouches are available in various location around campus in case of emergencies. YONDR pouches are used at Thomas Jefferson High School with a goal to improve student engagement, collaboration, and participation.

Any student who has his/her phone and any electronic devices (i.e earbuds/smart watches) out during class must be escorted by a campus aide to the auditorium/dean's office.

* Should a student lose or damage their pouch, a $30 fine will be issued

** Before a student receives their pouch, a Caregiver Waiver is required to be filled out and signed as an agreement between the School, the student, and their caregiver.

How it Works

1. As students are entering campus in the morning, they must show school staff that their pouches are filled and locked with the colored side of the button out.

2. Students enjoy a productive and collaborative learning day.

3. As students are dismissed from the school day, there are tables with unlocking magnets placed at the dismissal gates. Students may unlock there phones by tapping their pouch on the unlocking magnet bases, and regain access to their devices.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*In the event of an emergency, students will be able to unlock their pouches with available unlocking magnets in the classrooms.

**In the event that a caregiver needs to get in touch with their student, they may contact the school's main office : (323) 521-1200

Testimonials

"It feels like I am teaching students again. They are more engaged and talking to each other since we had started implementing this policy."

-Mr.Carreon (English Teacher)

"At first it was a little difficult to get used to the pouches, but it's become a norm now. It is definitely easier to pay attention in class, especially with the new teachers. Kids aren't getting into much trouble anymore, because of social media. I don't mind it. "

-Student, Senior

" The YONDR pouches have improved student moral, communication, engagement, and participation in my classroom."

-Mr.Rios (English and AVID Teacher)
