Looking to gain experience before your first job? Volunteering is one of the best ways to build real-world skills, discover what you enjoy doing, and strengthen your resume—all at the same time.
When you volunteer, you're not just helping others—you’re learning how to work on a team, communicate clearly, solve problems, and manage your time. These are skills that employers and colleges look for, and they can help you stand out from the crowd.
Even if you don’t have any job experience yet, listing volunteer work on your resume shows that you're motivated, dependable, and willing to learn. It also gives you something to talk about in interviews!
Plus, volunteering can help you explore different career paths. You might find out you love working in healthcare, education, or event planning—all just by trying something new.
Start small—every experience counts. Whether it's a few hours a month or a summer-long project, volunteering is a powerful way to grow, learn, and get one step closer to your future goals.

CicLAvia
CicLAvia produces car-free street events all throughout LA County. Our next event, CicLAvia–Historic South Central meets Watts is on Sunday, June 22, connecting Historic South Central, Florence Firestone and Watts via 6.4 miles of open streets and free family fun!
We're looking for individual and group volunteers (ages 14+) to help at the event; it's a great opportunity for students to give back to the local community, spend the day outdoors, and gain service hours.
